6:1 - Be careful not to do your good deeds in the presence of other people so that they can see you; if you do that, God will not reward it.
6:2 - So when you do your alms, do so quietly unlike the hypocrites in the synagogue who do them for glory. They already have their reward.
6:3 - But when you give charitably, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing.
6:4 - Your good deeds should be done secretly: and God, who sees your secret good deeds, will reward you openly.
6:5 - And when you take time to pray, do not follow the example of those hypocrites: you have seen them praying loudly in public places where they are seen and admired by others. I tell you the truth, that is all the reward they will receive.
6:6 - When you pray, do not shout it out for all to hear your lament, but rather in a quiet place, for your heavenly Father will hear your prayer and bless you.
6:7 - But when you pray, do not be vainly repetitious, as the heathens do: they think that because they are verbose, they will be heard.
6:8 - Don’t be like the rest of them: God knows what you need even before you ask him.
6:9 - Therefore, you should pray like this: Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.
6:10 - Your kingdom will arrive, Your desire will be accomplished in the earth, the same as it will be accomplished in heaven.
6:11 - Grant us food to eat each day.
6:12 - If we can call it even, I’ll call it even with those who owe me.
6:13 - And please do not lead us into situations which will tempt us to do evil, but when evil besets us, rescue us from it; for the Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory are yours eternally. So be it.
6:14 - If you forgive people’s sins, God will forgive you too:
6:15 - If you don’t forgive men’s sins, God won’t forgive your sins either.
6:16 - In addition, whenever you fast, don’t be like the hypocrites, walking around with a sad looking face: they look this way, so men will know that they are fasting. So, I tell you, they have already received their reward.
6:17 - But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face.
6:18 - You don’t appear to men too fast, but to your dad in secret, and your father who sees in secret will openly reward you.
6:19 - Those areas where moths and rust eat away, or where thieves will break in and steal is not where you should keep your treasures:
6:20 - Keep yourself fixed on Heaven where no pain, thieves, discord exist.
6:21 - Whatever you desire and pursue in life, your heart will worship as well.
6:22 - The eye is the light of the body: so if your eye is clear, your whole body will fill with light.
6:23 - But if what you see is evil, then your whole body is full of that kind of darkness. So, if the light that is in you is truly dark, it will be darker than any other!
6:24 - You can’t have two gods, because you’ll hate one and love the other.
6:25 - Not to worry about what to eat, drink,or wear, this life is a blink compared to our eternity in heaven.
6:26 - Consider the birds in the sky: they don’t plant, harvest, or store their food; but your Father in heaven gives them food. Aren’t you worth more than them?
6:27 - Which one of you, after thinking about it, can add 45.72cm onto his height?
6:28 - Why do you think of raiment? Why do you not think on the lilies out in the field, think of how the grow up; they do not toil or twirl.
6:29 - And through it all, even the extravagant Soloman, in his prime time of life, was no comparison to what I am telling you about now.
6:30 - If God clothes the fields with such beauty, which is here today and then thrown into an incinerator tomorrow, why would He not clothe you, you child of little faith?
6:31 - So, do not wonder Where will our food, drink or even our clothes come from?
6:32 - (And the Gentiles want all of these items:) God in Heaven understands that you need them.
6:33 - You should first look for God’s kingdom and his righteousness; then all these things will be given to you as well.
6:34 - Don’t think about what will happen the next day: since the next day will come along anyway. There are enough problems to deal with today.
