The Turker’s Gospel

The Bible According To Mechanical Turk Workers

Matthew 17:1-10

17:1 - Six days later, Jesus took Peter, James and John his brother, and brought them away to a high mountain,

17:2 - As he stood before them, his appearance changed. His face began to shine like the sun and his clothes were as white as the light.

17:3 - And they saw Moses and Elias, who were talking.

17:4 - Peter said to Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here with you: if you will, let us make three portable sanctuaries; one for myself, one for Moses, and one for Elias.

17:5 - Before he could speak, he perceived, a bright cloud overshadowing them: and they heard a voice out of the cloud, which said to them. This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; listen well to him.

17:6 - When the disciples heard it, they fell on the ground, shaking with fear.

17:7 - And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Get Up, and don’t be afraid.

17:8 - The eyes had lifted upon Jesus only.

17:9 - While they came down the mountain, Jesus made them promise to keep a secret, telling them, Not to reveal what they saw to anybody, until the Messiah was resurrected.

17:10 - His disciples asked him, why do the scribes say that Elias must come first?

Matthew 17:11-20

17:11 - And Jesus replied to them that Elias will come first, for sure, and will set everything right.

17:12 - But I am telling you, Elias already came and they didn’t know him so they treated him disrespectfully. They will treat the Son of Man the same way.

17:13 - The followers then understood that he was speaking to them about John the Baptist.

17:14 - And when they reached the crowd, a man came and knelt down in front of him and said,

17:15 - Lord, forgive my son: for he is not well: for he has fallen into the fire and the water.

17:16 - I brought him to his followers, but they couldn’t fix him.

17:17 - Then Jesus replied, O faithless and perverse generation, how long will I remain with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring him here.

17:18 - And Jesus performed an exorcism, so he devil left the child, and he was no longer possessed.

17:19 - The disciples each came to Jesus separately and asked, Why couldn’t we cast him out?

17:20 - And Jesus said, I say to you, the unbeliever: if you have even a shred of faith, you may move mountains. Nothing is impossible for those of faith.

Matthew 17:21-27

17:21 - But you can only exorcise this type of demon by fasting and praying.

17:22 - While they were staying in Galilee, Jesus said to his followers, a traitor is coming who will betray me to our enemies:

17:23 - They will kill him and he will come back to life after 3 days. They were very sorry.

17:24 - When they arrived at Capernaum, those that received tribute money said to Peter, Doesn’t your master pay tribute?

17:25 - He said, Yes. He then came into the home, Jesus stopped him and said, What do you think of this Simon? Which of the important men of the world take bribes? Taking advantage of their children or no one in particular?

17:26 - Peter said to him, the strangers. Jesus said to him, will the children be free.

17:27 - To fish and also to give generously.
