Mark 7:1 - Then the Pharisees and certain scribes from Jerusalem came together to him.
Mark 7:2 - They thought it was wrong that the disciples would eat bread with dirty hands.
Mark 7:3 - Following the tradition of the elders, the Pharisees and the Jews do not eat without first washing their hands.
Mark 7:4 - After they return from the market, they never eat without first washing their hands. And they have adopted many other good habits, such as washing dishes and tables.
Mark 7:5 - How come you and your disciples do not follow the laws that the elders followed, and instead eat without washing your hands first, the Pharisees and scribes wanted to know.
Mark 7:6 - He answered them and said: Elias correctly warned of your hypocrisy saying that you speak as if you honor me but in your hearts you don’t.
Mark 7:7 - Even if they worship me in vain, for the sake of the doctrine they teach what men believe.
Mark 7:8 - Humanity is apt to ignore the word of God with the same daily routine of washing dishes.
Mark 7:9 - Then he said, you turn away from God’s commandments so you can keep your old ways.
Mark 7:10 - Because Moses said, Respect your parents, and anyone who betrays their parents will be executed:
Mark 7:11 - Corban is a gift, and if one says to his father or mother they will be profited and set free.
Mark 7:12 - You will no longer allow him to do nothing for his father or mother.
Mark 7:13 - Making the word of God have no effect because of your tradition which you have made, and you many similar things.
Mark 7:14 - And once he had gathered all the people around him, he said to them, Listen to me, everyone, and pay attention:
Mark 7:15 - The only threats to man come from within.
Mark 7:16 - If anyone has ears that can ear what I am saying, let them hear.
Mark 7:17 - When he came into the house, his disciples asked him about the parable.
Mark 7:18 - And he said to them, Do you have no understanding either? Don’t you get it, whatever that goes into a man from the outside, can’t defile him;
Mark 7:19 - Because the food doesn’t affect his soul, but only his stomach, and then is expelled like all food?
Mark 7:20 - He said, That which comes from man, makes the man filthy.
Mark 7:21 - Every man has evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, in his inner heart.
Mark 7:22 - These characteristics make up a bad friend: stealing, lying, and tainted morals.
Mark 7:23 - People are made unholy by the thoughts and ideas that they carry in themselves, not from outer things.
Mark 7:24 - He went into a house at the borders of Tyre and Sidon hoping that no one would know, but everyone knew where he was.
Mark 7:25 - A particular woman, whose young daughter was rather immoral, heard about him and begged at his feet.
Mark 7:26 - The woman was a Greek of Syrophenician descent, and she begged him to exorcise her daughter.
Mark 7:27 - Jesus said to her, Let the children eat first; for it isn’t right to take their bread and feed it to the dogs instead.
Mark 7:28 - She answered, Yes, Lord: the dogs eat the children’s crumbs.
Mark 7:29 - And he told her, because you said this your daughter is freed from the devil that had control of her.
Mark 7:30 - When she got home, she found that the devil had left and her daughter was laying on the bed.
