Mark 5:1-10

Mark 5:1 - And they crossed the sea, and entered the country where the Gadarenes lived.

Mark 5:2 - As he got off the ship, he encountered an evil spirit.

Mark 5:3 - He lived among the tombs and couldn’t be kept bound up by anyone, not even with chains.

Mark 5:4 - He had often been put into shackles and chains; and he had ripped the chains apart and broken the shackles; and no man could beat him down.

Mark 5:5 - He would spend all his time in the mountains and tombs and he would cry and cut himself with sharp stones.

Mark 5:6 - When he saw Jesus in the distance, he ran to him and worshiped him.

Mark 5:7 - And he cried out, and said, What am I to you, Jesus, Son of the most high God? I urge you in God’s name to stop tormenting me.

Mark 5:8 - He said to him, Come out unclean spirit.

Mark 5:9 - Then he asked, What’s your name? And the answer he received was: My name is Legion because there are so many of us.

Mark 5:10 - He he begged him not to send them out of the country.

Mark 5:11-20

Mark 5:11 - There was, up on the mountain, a large herd of pigs eating.

Mark 5:12 - And the demons begged him, asking, Please send us into the pigs.

Mark 5:13 - Then they were given permission by Jesus to go as they would. The demons arose and chose the pigs to dwell within: all of them collectively headed down the side of the mountain (approximately 2,00 of them) and drowned in the water.

Mark 5:14 - Those that ran from the swine told their tale to those in the country and in the city. The people went to see what had happened.

Mark 5:15 - When they came to Jesus and saw the one that was previously possessed by the demon called legion both clothed and sane,they were afraid.

Mark 5:16 - And they were told about what happened to the man possessed by the devil and about the boar.

Mark 5:17 - And they begged him to leave their shores.

Mark 5:18 - When he came unto the ship, the possessed man prayed that he would be with him.

Mark 5:19 - However, Jesus did not tolerate his presence but told him to go home to his friends and tell them that the Lord had not only done great things for him but had shown compassion for him as well.

Mark 5:20 - He departed. He began publishing in Decapolis about all the great things Jesus had done for him; all the men were amazed of what he wrote.

Mark 5:21-30

Mark 5:21 - Having crossed the sea over to the other shore, Jesus was encompassed by all the people that waited to come to him, and so he remained on the sea.

Mark 5:22 - Jairus, one of the leaders of the synagogue came in and saw him and knelt before him,

Mark 5:23 - And he implored him, My young daughter is at the point of death; I beg you to come and lay hands on her and heal her so that she will survive.

Mark 5:24 - Jesus went with the man and many people followed and crowded him.

Mark 5:25 - And one particular woman, who had had a blood hemorrhage for twelve years,

Mark 5:26 - And the doctors made her suffer and took all her money but her health didn’t improve and in fact, it grew worse.

Mark 5:27 - After hearing about Jesus she pushed her way through the crowd behind him and touched his clothes.

Mark 5:28 - She then told him, if I can touch your clothes I will be made whole.

Mark 5:29 - Immediately her flow of blood dried up, and she felt in her body that she had been healed.

Mark 5:30 - And Jesus, at that very moment realizing that his power had left him, turned around to the crowd of people and asked, Who touched my clothes?

Mark 5:31-43

Mark 5:31 - And his disciples said to him: You see all these people crowding around you and you ask who touched you?

Mark 5:32 - He scanned the crowd to see the women who had done this.

Mark 5:33 - But the terrified woman, understanding her own condition, went up to him and threw herself at his feet, and confessed everything.

Mark 5:34 - And he said to her, Daughter, your faith has healed you; go in peace, because you are cured of your disease.

Mark 5:35 - While he was talking, someone came out of the ruler of the synagogue’s house and asked, Why do you keep bothering the Master when your daughter is dead?

Mark 5:36 - When Jesus heard that, he told the leader of the synagogue not to be afraid, but to have faith.

Mark 5:37 - And he wouldn’t let anyone follow him, except Peter, James, and James’ brother John.

Mark 5:38 - When he got to the ruler of the synagogue’s house, he saw the commotion and the people who were weeping and wailing.

Mark 5:39 - When he entered he said to them, why do you cry and carry on so, the women is not dead but asleep.

Mark 5:40 - And they laughed at him to the point of ridicule. But after making them all leave, he took the father and the mother of the damsel, and those that had come with him, and went in to where the damsel was lying.

Mark 5:41 - And he took the lady’s hand, and said to her, Talitha cumi, which means, Lady, I command you to get up.

Mark 5:42 - And immediately the girl got up, and started walking, as she was twelve years old. And they were amazed.

Mark 5:43 - Give her some food and keep this a secret.
