6:1 - After the second sabbath day, he passed through the corn fields; and his disciples picked ears of corn and ate them, rubbing them with their hands.
6:2 - And one of the Pharisees said to them, Why do you do things that it is not lawful for you to do on the sabbath days?
6:3 - Jesus answered them, saying Haven’t you heard what David did when he and his companions were hungry?
6:4 - He went into the temple and took the showbread and ate it, sharing it with those with him, even thought it is illegal for anyone but the priests to eat it.
6:5 - And he said to them, The Son of man is the Lord of the sabbath.
6:6 - Another sabbath passed and he went to the synagogue and taught: there was a man who had a withered right hand.
6:7 - The scribes and Pharisees were observing Jesus to see whether He would heal on the day of worship, so that they could find a way and reason to accuse him of doing something that goes beyond the law of God.
6:8 - He knew what they were thinking and said to the man with the crippled hand, Stand up in the middle of these people. And he stood up and did so.
6:9 - Then Jesus said to them, I will ask you something; Is it right to do good or evil on the sabbath days? to save a life, or to take it away?
6:10 - An looking at all the people, Jesus said to the man, put out your hand. The man put out his hand and his hand was cured and looked just like his other one.
6:11 - They were consumed by rage; and conspired with one another about what they would do to Jesus.
6:12 - At a certain time, he went up a mountain to pray, and stayed there all night long praying to God.
6:13 - When the day came he called upon his followers: out of his followers he chose twelve who then became his apostles;
6:14 - Simon, also named Peter, his brother Andrew, James and John, Philip and Bartholomew,
6:15 - Matthew, Thomas, James (Alphaeus’ son), and Simon, whose nickname was Zelotes.
6:16 - And James’ brother Judas, along with Judas Iscariot the betrayor.
6:17 - He came below and stood with them there on the plain, in the presence of his beloved disciples, with a wonderous many peoplethat come out of the area of Judea, and out of Jerusalem, also from the water coast of Tyre, also Sidon, that came close to him to hear what he was saying, and to be made well from their sicknesses.
6:18 - Those who were full of evil spirits were cleansed.
6:19 - All of them wanted to touch him because he was a virtuous man who healed every one of them.
6:20 - And he looked into the eyes of his disciples, and uttered, Blessed be the poor: for they will find the kingdom of God.
6:21 - The people who are hungry now are lucky because they will be fed. The people who weep now are lucky because they will be happy.
6:22 - You are exalted, when society hates, avoids, and disrespects you, and treat you as though you were evil, for the Son of man’s sake.
6:23 - Sing then, and dance: for you’ll be richly rewarded in heaven - it’s just like their fathers did to the prophets.
6:24 - But how unhappy are those that have money! for you have gotten your comfort.
6:25 - Sadness to those of you that are full! for you will find hunger. Sadness unto those of you that laugh now! for you shall soon cry and be sad.
6:26 - You need to beware, when everyone talks about how good you are! because their ancestors spoke the say way to those who were assumed prophets but were not.
6:27 - I say to the ones who hear me, Care for your enemies, and love them, only do good to those who do not like you.
6:28 - Give to those people that take from you and pray for the ones who hatefully use you.
6:29 - If someone hits you on one cheek, offer to let him hit your other cheek too; and if someone takes your cloak away, give him your coat also.
6:30 - Be generous and give to any man that asks you; if he takes your things do not ask him again.
6:31 - Treat all men as you desire to be treated.
6:32 - If you only love the people that love you, what difference is that? Even sinners love the ones that love them.
6:33 - If you are nice to those who are nice to you, what of it? Even a bad person can do that if he wants to.
6:34 - If you give to those who give back, what have you really done? Even the sinners give to other sinners with the same result.
6:35 - But love your enemies, do good, and give loans, with no hopes of anything in return; your reward will be great, and you will be the children of the Highest, for he is kind, even to those who aren’t thankful and those who are evil.
6:36 - Your father is merciful so you in turn should be merciful as well.
6:37 - If you do not judge, you will not be judged. If you do not condemn you will not be condemned. If you forgive you will be forgiven.
6:38 - You’ll get as good and you give. Give a full dozen, a full bushel, run it over for others and that’s how it will return to you.
6:39 - He told them a moral lesson, Can the blind lead the blind? If so won’t they both fall into the ditch?
6:40 - A student is not better than his teacher, but rather, everyone that is perfect he can learn something from.
6:41 - Why do you see the smallest fault in another, but not the largest that is in you?
6:42 - How can you offer to fix the smallest ill of another when you yourself are hindered by an even bigger ill? Fix yourself and then you will be in a better position to help another.
6:43 - A good tree will not produce spoiled fruit and a spoiled tree will not produce good fruit.
6:44 - Every tree has identifying characteristics, and thus people do not try to pick cherries off an apple tree.
6:45 - A good person with a good heart produces positive efforts; and an evil person with an evil heart produces negative efforts: for what predominates in one’s heart guides what one says.
6:46 - And why call me, Lord, Lord, and not do what I tell you?
6:47 - Whoever comes to me, hears what I have to say and then acts on it, will be like these:
6:48 - His faith is like a solidly built house where the foundation was dug deep and placed firmly on rock so that when the floods came and the water hit hard upon the house, there was no damage because it was built on rock.
6:49 - But the man who hears but doesn’t do is like a man who built a house with no foundation which then fell because the stream corroded it, causing massive damage.
