The Turker’s Gospel

The Bible According To Mechanical Turk Workers

Luke 5:1-10

5:1 - Standing by the lake of Gennesarat, crowds came to listen to him speak about the word of God.

5:2 - And then two boats at the edge of the water came into view, but no one was seen in the crafts, as the people were away cleaning their nets.

5:3 - And he boarded one of the boats, which was Simon’s, and asked that he push out from shore. He then sat down, and taught the people from aboard the boat.

5:4 - He then left speaking, Simon was told, Go out into the deep, then let your nets down for a drought.

5:5 - And Simon answered, Boss, we’ve worked all night for nothing but, since you said so, I’ll cast the net again.

5:6 - After they had done this, they caught so many fish that their net broke.

5:7 - And they called to their partners on the other ship to come and help them. Their partners came, and they filled both of the ships with fish, and both ships started to sink.

5:8 - And at the time it came into Peter’s view, he dropped in front of Jesus and said, Leave me; for I am unworthy and a sinner, my God.

5:9 - For he was astonished, as were all of them, at the amount of fish that they had taken:

5:10 - Zebedee’s sons, James and John, were partners with Simon. Jesus said to Simon, Don’t worry; from now on you’ll catch men instead of fish.

Luke 5:11-20

5:11 - After the ship landed, they followed him.

5:12 - As time went by, when he was in a specific city, he saw a man with leprosy: when the man saw Jesus he got down in a prostrate position and begged him, saying, Lord if you want to, you can heal me.

5:13 - As he touched him he said I will: you are healed. And he was immediately free of leprosy.

5:14 - He advised him to tell no one: but to go to the priest and offer oneself up for cleansing, as Moses commanded them.

5:15 - When the people in the land had heard of his great teachings and miracles many came to hear him speak and to be healed.

5:16 - Jesus went away to be alone and pray.

5:17 - As he was talking to some eager listeners, he became aware of many onlookers from nearby towns, men of professional stature, also intrigued by his words.

5:18 - They brought before him a bed-ridden man who suffered from a palsy.

5:19 - And at the time the people were unable to think of a path they could take to present the man before Jesus because of the crowd, they climbed onto the roof, and lowered the man down on a stretcher so he could be in Jesus’ presence.

5:20 - When he saw how strong their faith was, he said until him, Man, I forgive you for your sons.

Luke 5:21-30

5:21 - The scribes and Pharisees started to reason with each other, asking, Who is this person telling lies? Who can forgive our sins but God?

5:22 - But Jesus could see what they were really thinking, and he replied, What do your hearts really say?

5:23 - Which is easier to say? You’re sins are forgiven or Get up and walk?

5:24 - So that you may be aware that the Messiah has power on earth to take away sins, (he told the person who was ill with palsy,) I am telling you to get up from the place where you are sitting down and go into your house.

5:25 - And he got up right away, and took his bed and went home, praising God.

5:26 - All the people were astonished and sanctified God and were filled with deep sorrow, saying, We have seen the indifferent things to-day.

5:27 - After that he went out and saw a tax collector called Levi sitting at his place of work, he said to him, Follow me.

5:28 - He then got up, and followed him, leaving everyone behind.

5:29 - And Levi invited him to a party at his own house; many of the other tax collectors and their friends came too.

5:30 - But their writers and Pharisees whispered behind his disciples backs saying, Why do you eat with publicans and criminals?

Luke 5:31-39

5:31 - And Jesus replied to them, Healthy people don’t need a doctor; but people who are ill need a doctor.

5:32 - All those who have committed sins, I call on you to repent.

5:33 - They asked him, Why do the followers of John and Pharisees pray and fast a lot; but then go and eat and drink?

5:34 - He asked, Can you create children of the wedding while the groom remains with them?

5:35 - The time will come, when the married man will be taken away, they will not eat or drink during those days.

5:36 - He told them this parable: No one should put on a new shirt over an old one, because if the new shirt rips, the old shirt will show through the hole, and the two shirts will not match.

5:37 - And no one should put new wine into old bottles. If you do, the new wine will cause the bottles to burst, and you will lose both the wine and the bottle.

5:38 - New wine should be put into new bottles and preserved.

5:39 - No one who has sipped of aged wine as well as new wine would favor the new wine, for aged wine is better.
