The Turker’s Gospel

The Bible According To Mechanical Turk Workers

Luke 24:1-10

24:1 - On the first day of the week they arrived at the sepulcher in the early morning. They brought with them the spices they had prepared.

24:2 - They saw the stone covering the tomb had been moved.

24:3 - Then they went inside, and didn’t find Jesus’s body.

24:4 - And as they stood about in confusion, they noticed two men standing near them dressed in shining clothing.

24:5 - They were gripped with fear and did bow their heads to the ground as they asked, Why do you seek the living among the dead?

24:6 - He is not here because he has risen: do you not remember how he spoke to you when he was still in Galilee,

24:7 - Stating, Jesus would be given away to terrible people, and would die on a cross, and then he would be raised from the dead in three days.

24:8 - And they thought about his meaning.

24:9 - Upon returning from the tomb he told everyone everything, particularly the eleven [disciples?].

24:10 - It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and several other women with them, who told these things to the apostles.

Luke 24:11-20

24:11 - Their stories seemed silly though and they didn’t believe them.

24:12 - Then Peter got up and ran into the sepulcher and when he bent over he saw the linen garments lying there by themselves and he left, puzzled by what had happened.

24:13 - That very same day, two of them went to the village of Emmaus, about 12km (7.5 miles) from Jerusalem.

24:14 - And they discussed everything that had happened.

24:15 - While they were gathered together talking, Jesus joined them and went with them.

24:16 - They could not know him because their eyes were kept from seeing clearly.

24:17 - He asked them, What way of communications that you have with one another, as you walk, and are unhappy?

24:18 - Cleopas answered him and said, you a stranger to Jerusalem, and you have no knowledge of what has happened here in the past few days?

24:19 - And he asked them, What things? And they told him, About Jesus from Nazareth, who was a prophet who did and said amazing things in front of God and all of the people:

24:20 - And how the head priests and our leaders brought him to be sentenced to death, and have crucified him.

Luke 24:21-30

24:21 - He said he would save Israel and we believed him, and that was three days ago.

24:22 - Some of the women, from our group, astonished us, after having arrived early, at the burial vault;

24:23 - They came when they could not find his body, and noted that they had seen angels, which indicated he was alive.

24:24 - Some of them went to the sepulcher and found it but they did not find him.

24:25 - Then he told them that they are foolish and dimwitted to have believed everything the prophets said.

24:26 - Should Christ have not suffered everything he did, and realize his glory?

24:27 - And starting with Moses and all of the prophets, he explained to them all of the scriptures that contained information about himself.

24:28 - When they got close to the village, he looked like he would continue on.

24:29 - But the held him back and said, Stay with us tonight, it is getting late and the day is almost over. So he decided to stay with them.

24:30 - He sat down to dinner with them, blessed the bread, and shared it with them.

Luke 24:31-40

24:31 - Their eyes were opened, and they knew who he was; then he disappeared before their eyes.

24:32 - And they said to each other, Our heart burnt inside us whilst he talked to us by the path, and while he showed us the scriptures?

24:33 - And they got up at the same time, and went back to Jerusalem, and discovered all eleven in the same place, along with the other people that accompanied them.

24:34 - It was announced that Simon saw Jesus after He had risen from the dead!

24:35 - They said that things were done in certain ways, and that he was known for distributing food among them.

24:36 - As they spoke, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, May peace be with you.

24:37 - They thought they had seen a spirit and it left them terrified and frightened.

24:38 - He asked them, why are you troubled? why do you have these thoughts in your hearts?

24:39 - Look at my hands and feet as proof that it is me, and feel my body. A ghost does not have skin or bones, but you yourselves see that I do.

24:40 - When he spoke, he showed them his hands and feet.

Luke 24:41-53

24:41 - While they were too overjoyed to believe, but instead wondered, he said to them, Do you have any meat here?

24:42 - They gave him some broiled fish with honey to eat.

24:43 - He took the food they gave him and he ate it while they were watching.

24:44 - I tried to tell you that everything about me in the psalms, and that Moses and the prophets wrote about me was all true, he matter-of-factly reminded them, You should have listened.

24:45 - He let them see their understanding, of the possibility they might understand the scriptures,

24:46 - And they told him, it is written, and Christ must suffer, rising from the grave on the third day.

24:47 - The wrongdoing and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name in all nations, starting in Jerusalem.

24:48 - And you are to testify these things.

24:49 - God promised you a Helper, the Holy Spirit, so stay in Jerusalem until the Holy Spirit comes to you.

24:50 - It was with uplifted hands that he blessed them in Bethany.

24:51 - He blessed them right before he died and ascended to heaven.

24:52 - So they worshiped him and went back to Jerusalem completely happy.

24:53 - They were always in the temple worshiping and thanking God. Amen, brother!
