The Turker’s Gospel

The Bible According To Mechanical Turk Workers

John 5:1-10

John 5:1 - Afterwards was the Jewish feast so Jesus traveled to Jerusalem.

John 5:2 - There’s a pool, located by the sheep market in Jerusalem, called Bethesda, in Hebrew, that has five porches.

John 5:3
- A crowd had gathered to wait for the moving of the water, and many of their number were without sight or limbs or otherwise infirm.

John 5:4 - At a certain time, an angel would come and flick the surface of the water and whoever went into the water first after that would be healed of any disease.

John 5:5
- A man was there who had an illness for thirty eight years.

John 5:6 - When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he’d been that way for a long time, he asked him, Will you be cured?

John 5:7 - Nobody will put me in the water when it is rough, but somebody got in before me said the impotent man.

John 5:8 - Jesus said to him, Rise, take up your bed, and walk.

John 5:9 - On the sabbath, the man got better and walked.

John 5:10 - The cured Jews spoke to him and said, The sabbath day is here: it’s against the law for you to carry your bed.

John 5:11-20

John 5:11 - He answered by saying he that made me complete and whole, come walk with me and rest in my bed.

John 5:12 - They wanted to know, Who was it that told you, Go to your bed and walk?

John 5:13 - The man that was healed did not know who healed him: because Jesus had moved away from him, since so many people were there.

John 5:14 - Afterward, Jesus found him in the temple. Jesus said to him, Look, you have been healed. Do not sin again, for if you do, something worse might happen to you.

John 5:15 - The man left, and informed the Jews that Jesus was the one who had healed him.

John 5:16 - Hence the Jews persecuted Jesus and planned to kill him because he had done these deeds upon the sabbath day.

John 5:17
- However, Jesus responded, Up until recently, my Dad worked here. Now I work here.

John 5:18 - So the Jews were even more eager to kill him, not only for breaking the sabbath, but also for claiming that God was his Father, which made him God’s equal.

John 5:19 - Then Jesus told them, The son does nothing on his own. He only does what he has seen his father do. Whatever the father does, the son will follow his example.

John 5:20
- The Father loves his Son and so demonstrates for him everything that he does: he will indeed show him things even grander than these so you can awe.

John 5:21-30

John 5:21 - As the Father will raise the dead and quicken them; just the same the Son will quicken those he wishes.

John 5:22
- The Father will not judge any human, but instead he will judge the Son.

John 5:23 - Everyone should honor the Son as much as they do the Father. If you don’t honor the Son then you also do not honor the Father who sent him to you.

John 5:24 - Listen to me: the person who hears my words and believes in me will live forever and will not be condemned but will move from death to life.

John 5:25 - I tell you in truth that the time grows near when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and if they hear, they will live.

John 5:26 - Just as the Father has a life inside; he has also given the Son to have a life inside;

John 5:27 - He has been given the authority to judge because he is the Son of man.

John 5:28 - Don’t be surprised: for the time is coming, when everybody in the tombs will hear his voice,

John 5:29 - And will come to receive their reward; those who have good works will receive eternal life; and those who have done evil will be damned.

John 5:30 - I do nothing on my own; I listen for the truth and do what I am told, for it is the voice of my Father I hear, and it his works I honor with my actions.

John 5:31-40

John 5:31 - My witness is not true if I glorify myself.

John 5:32 - God can tell you about me and I know that He will tell you the truth.

John 5:33 - You sent for John, and he has borne witness to the truth of it.

John 5:34 - Yet I am not looking for any man’s endorsement, but I tell you these things for your salvation.

John 5:35 - The man was a leader among you that you look up to and love with great respect, for the moment.

John 5:36 - My witness is better than the one John has: the father have given me work to finish, I do the same work, be my witness, I was sent by the Father.

John 5:37 - The Father himself, who sent me, has borne witness of me. You have never heard his voice nor seen him.

John 5:38 - You understand not his word, for you doubt its messenger.

John 5:39 - You search the scriptures because from them you think you get eternal life, the scriptures are that which tell of me.

John 5:40
- And he said: those who come to me, may have eternal life.

John 5:41-47

John 5:41 - From men I receive no honor.

John 5:42 - But I know you, and I know that you do not have the love of God in you.

John 5:43 - I came in my Fathers name and you did not accept be but if another man came in his name he would be accepted.

John 5:44
- If you believe in God, why would you care what other people think and not what God thinks?

John 5:45
- Don’t assume that I’ll uncover your guilt before God: the teachings of Moses your prophet have already done that.

John 5:46
- If you believed what Moses wrote of me, you would have believed me also.

John 5:47
- How can you believe what I say if you don’t believe in what he wrote?
