John 13:1 - Before the Passover, Jesus knew that his time in the world was almost up. He would leave this world and go to God, having loved the people of the world with all his heart until the end.
John 13:2 - Dinner was over and Judas Iscariot, son of Simon, had been led by Satan to thoughts of betrayal;
John 13:3 - Jesus knew that he had been given everything by his Father, God.
John 13:4 - He got up from dinner, took his clothes off and wrapped himself in a towel.
John 13:5 - Afterwards, he poured water into a basin, and washed and wiped the disciples’ feet with the towel he had around his waist.
John 13:6 - Then he came to Simon Peter; and Peter asked him, Lord, why do you humble yourself by washing my feet?
John 13:7 - Jesus replied, You do not understand what I am doing now, but you will know later.
John 13:8 - Peter told him, please don’t wash my feet. Jesus responded, if you don’t let me bath you, then we can not hang out together.
John 13:9 - Simon Peter said to him: Lord, not just my feet, but my hands and my head too.
John 13:10 - Jesus said that to be completely clean a person only needs to wash his or her feet, and practically everyone here are therefore clean.
