1:11 - Josias had his son Jechonias and his brothers around the time they were abducted and taken to Babylon.
1:12 - Once they had arrived in Babylon, Jechonias had Salathiel and Slathiel had Zorobabel.
1:13 - And Zorobabel is the father of Abiud; and Abiud is the father of Eliakim; and Eliakim is the father of Azor.
1:14 - And Azor fathered Sadoc; and Sadoc fathered Achim; and Achim fathered Eliud;
1:15 - And Eliud had a son named Eleazar; and Eleazar had a son named Matthan; and Matthan had a son named Jacob;
1:16 - Jacob gave the world Joseph, Mary’s husband, who gave birth to Jesus, our Christ.
1:17 - There are 14 generations between Abraham and David, 14 generations between David and the journey to Babylon, and 14 generations between Babylon and the birth of Christ.
1:18 - The birth of Jesus Christ happened this way: When his mother Mary was going to marry Joseph, before they had sexual relations, she was discovered to be pregnant with a child from the Holy Spirit.
1:19 - Then her husband Joseph, being a fair man, didn’t want to make a public example of her, and was determined to privately send her away.
1:20 - While he considered these issues, an angel of the LORD came to him in a dream, saying, Joseph, son of David, don’t be afraid to get married to Mary: because the baby she is pregnant with is from the Holy Spirit.
