My name is Paul K. Graham and I am freelance historical and genealogical researcher. I am currently pursuing a Master of Heritage Preservation degree from Georgia State University.

I provided services for authors, historians, homeowners, television production companies, and genealogists, related to the histories of people and places in the state of Georgia. My specialties lie in genealogical problem solving, land records, and African American family history, but I always enjoy solving any kind of historical puzzle. My primary geographic focus is the state of Georgia.

Recent Work

2007: Researched the childhood history and hidden family secrets of a 20th Century Marine Corps general for an upcoming biography.

African American Lives, February 2006: Researched the maternal ancestry of actor-comedian Chris Tucker for the PBS television series African American Lives.

1805 Georgia Land Lottery Persons Entitled to Draws, August 2005: Published new transcription of the list of people who registered for Georgia's first land lottery. The record is the best available substitute for the 1800 United States Census, which was lost (except Oglethorpe County).

Acknowledgement

In December 2005, I was presented the award for "Outstanding Contribution to the Field of Genealogy" by the Georgia Genealogical Society for my two 1805 Georgia Land Lottery books. I did not expect this award and was greatly honored by this recognition by a group of people for whom I have great respect.

Professional Development

Currently, I am working to complete my application to become a Certified Genealogist (a service mark of the Board for Certification of Genealogists).

Speaking

I have spoken to many organizations about genealogy-related topics, such as the Georgia land lotteries, using land records for research, and tracing your African American family history. At the moment, I am not currently available to provide this service.
